imageSankofa Meroe Tours is an African American tour operator based in Ghana. We recognize the importance of having a tour operator in Ghana that understands and appreciates the uniqueness of the African American tourist. Like all tourists African American tourists expect excellent, efficient and reliable service. In addition, you come to Africa with a sense of "homecoming" and "pilgrimage" and it is important for the tour operator to understand and embrace these emotions when they arrive in Ghana. We know "where the African American tourist is coming from" because our people are familiar with the historical experience, sentiments and culture of their African American brothers and sisters visiting Ghana. As a consequence, there are added touches and a sense of familiarity when the African American tourist is working with Sankofa Meroe Tours. The owner of Sankofa Meroe Tours is also a former resident of Nigeria who has close links with business owners in Nigeria. Sankofa Meroe Tours appreciates the close relationship between Ghanaians and Nigerians is attempting to facilitate Nigerian tourists looking for a familiar change of pace in Ghana at a price substantially lower than flying to Europe. About Ghana

Ghana is situated in West Africa and is bounded by Burkina Faso, Togo, the Atlantic Ocean and Côte d'Ivoire. Lush tropical rainforest covers the south western quarter, while most parts of the north and east is mixed forest and savannah, thinning out into Sahelian conditions as you travel further north. East of Takoradi, Ghana's first "Harbor City" there is a gradual, but perceptive change from forest to woodland; beyond Cape Coast all the way to the Togolese border; Ghana's natural vegetation is grassland as the coastline is dotted with palm-fringed beaches and lagoons. Cape Three Points is the land on the earth to 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude.

Ghana's total land area is about 92,000 square miles, about the size of the United Kingdom or about the size of the Oregon, if you are more familiar with North America. Don't worry too much about the weather during your stay - - it will either be hot and dry, or hot and wet. Either way dress casual; carry an umbrella (which doubles as a parasol). Once called the "Gold Coast", Ghana has huge potential to become the "Gateway to West Africa", providing its landlocked neighbors with safe trade routes through its ports. The country is rich in mineral resources, such as gold, manganese, diamonds and bauxite - and there is huge potential in agriculture and fisheries. Ghana is the second largest producer of gold and cocoa in the world, and they are, respectively, the number one and two income generating sectors of the economy. Tourism is the third.

Nearly 24 million people made up mainly of Akan, Ga, Ewe, Mossi, Hausa, Dagomba tribes have the privilege of calling themselves Ghanaians. Ghana is a secular state, and we have managed to live together successfully regardless of faith. Christianity (69%), Islam (22%), and traditional beliefs are the dominant faiths in terms of adherents. Although there are several indigenous languages, English is the official language.
